I grew up in a small town in New Hampshire. One of my favorite things about a small town is the connection we all share. I am so excited to photograph Jocelyn and Jesse’s wedding this Spring in Walpole. Double bonus a visit home with our three kids and free babysitting from my parents 🙂 I had the honor of photographing Jesse’s twin brothers wedding so it is going to be like a big family reunion celebrating the most adorable couple Jesse and Jocelyn. Thanks for asking me to be apart of your day.
Jessica Petrie owner of Yoga Next Door. Grew up in Freeport. Mom of three boys. Moved away to California & MA after attending college at Bates and returned six years ago to raise a family in the woods, mountains and oceans of Maine. Yoga, outdoor and Maine enthusiast.
Yoga classes and private sessions happen in the serene hOMe yoga studio attached to our house, surrounded by woods in North Yarmouth. Since it’s a hOMe yoga studio, I am able to offer onsite childcare four classes a week. In the summer I offerer weekend-long yoga retreats and yoga classes at Bustins Island in Casco Bay Maine.
Yoga Next Door opened the Spring of 2018. I have been practicing yoga for 20 years.
Follow your intuition, passions and take risks. If you build it they will come…to the woods of North Yarmouth! This business has evolved from hard work, my passion for sharing yoga with others, following my intuition and taking risks along the way.
I trained with Katie O’Connell in the mountains of NH; who has created an amazing yoga studio, retreat center and training program off the beaten path. She inspired me to offer yoga off the beaten path here in Maine.
Being creative, engaging & creating community with my neighbors & community, helping students of all ages and; levels access the benefits of yoga, being hOMe for my boys.
See above “advice/wisdom.” More on background – When I finished my teacher training I began teaching in our living room, fall 2018 we moved to the 4 season porch with 6 students at a time, summer 2018 we expanded the porch turning it into a full studio.
Warmth, creativity and how comfortable she makes people – it’s a very relaxed dynamic.
Yoga Next Door is truly an ALL LEVELS Yoga Studio. I offer Beginner/Gentle Vinyasa Yoga to Slow Flow Vinyasa to more heat-building Vinyasa Flow classes. I am excited to be adding new Chair Vinyasa class and Yin Yoga class (to be taught by Meghan MacDonald) in 2020. All the classes at YND offer breathwork, stretching, strengthening, meditation and a touch of yoga philosophy. I love that YND is a place that my neighbors and the community can come to Invest in Rest and Self Care. The twice monthly Restorative Yoga classes often sell out; Reiki Master Meghan will be providing energy work in these classes in 2020. As a mom, I love that I am able to provide onsite childcare 4 classes a week, something I needed but did not have access to when my boys were babies and toddlers.
Over the holiday break, I had the wonderful opportunity to have two photoshoots. This adorable family was one of them. The holidays are a time for families to reconnect and get together all under one roof. The C family reached out to capture photos of their new bundle of joy and his visit to his mother’s hometown in Maine. The holiday season does bring so much love and joy and beautiful winter light.
Happy New Years Eve Everyone! I can’t believe I am saying this … but the 2019 365 Photo Project is complete. I did it! My year-long personal project to take a photo every day for one year is complete! Last year I took on the goal of photographing a photo every day with my camera, while this year I allowed my self some wiggle room and used my phone for quite a bit of photo especially this fall.
Looking at our day to day life through this slideshow makes me realize how wonderful our life is and how hard Geoff and I work. So many emotions are felt. Some highlights were a trip to England and France, Quebec, New Hampshire, and many moments exploring Maine land and sea. This year we lost two beloved fur babies but gained a new little fur baby named Oscar who has big shoes to fill. Most importantly 2020 we will be awaiting the arrival of our new son and hope he enjoys the journey with us and has fun on many of our daily adventures and routines. 2019 Evenings were filled with books, crafts, soccer and dance classes and mainly my kids being goofballs. Some days I had more motivation and went on an expedition to seak light and adventure while other days we had messy hair, boogers, and PJs. I hope one day my children can look back and see how much love I felt for them and share these images in years to come with other generations of our family. I am so proud of these little ones and myself for completing this.
My next goal is to make a photo book for myself and each kid and print my favs. Next Year I may do the 52-week challenge but to be honest, I still will leave the camera out on the counter and do a picture every day. One thing will be different for 2020 that I will let go of the guilt and rush if I didn’t get one, but I have a feeling next year I will do more with my camera vs phone.
I hope this inspires you to do one. You do not need to have a camera to take a photo per day take out your phone and curate images per year. But if you are a photographer or aspiring one this project will make you think outside the box and take time for your family. Thank you, Geoff, Rourke, Onora and our close family and friends for being good creative sports during this project I am so lucky to have you as my family and can’t wait to continue to capture your life as long as I can.
I had a wonderful time at Wolfe Neck state park in Freeport, Maine capturing Jennifer and Jonathan’s engagement photos. This lovely couple is both in their residency’s and I just can’t get over how genuine and adorable they are. I am looking forward to their wedding in May. It is going to be a celebration of their love and all of their accomplishments.
